InterActiveCorp (IACI) bought Ask.com for $1.85 billion in 2005. The new Perion will be worth only about 40% of that. After the merger, Perion will leapfrog its much larger rivals: Babylon and AVG (AVG). Finally, Perion should be able to increase its operating margins as it can spread its SG&A costs over a much larger base (Conduit EBITDA margin is 32% vs. Perion's 23%). Perion will keep its senior management team intact: Josef Mandelbaum will remain its CEO and Yacov Kaufman its CFO. Perion has successfully orchestrated a roll-up acquisitions of privately-held Sweetpacks and Smilebox, so I have high confidence that they know how to integrate a new business.

Corroborating data from IDC, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT  ) has overtaken BlackBerry (NASDAQ: BBRY  ) as the No. 3 platform in numerous geographical segments. That includes the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Windows Phone's European market share of 6.8% is now well above BlackBerry's estimated 2.5%. Kantar estimates that BlackBerry's U.S. position has declined to just 0.7%, while Windows Phone now grabs 4.6% of the market.

    3. BlackBerry in a blender
BlackBerry (NASDAQ: BBRY  ) has been bringing out the worst in analysts this week.

MKM Partners analyst Michael Genovese argues that BlackBerry is losing relevance after commissioning a survey that found few people were excited about the new BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system. He has a sell rating on the shares and a $10 price target. Detwiler Fenton's channel checks show that some retailers are taking in more returns of Z10sthan they are selling now that the initial push is over. BlackBerry went on to refute those claims in a statement. ITG Research is arguing that the sales trend is quite weak for the Z10. Pacific Crest analyst James Faucette may be slightly more upbeat, as his channel checks show modest sales of the new phone, but he's not budging from his underperform rating.

Bulls will argue that the bearish analysts will only see what they want to see, but when so many start to chime in with unflattering perspectives, there's often some kernel of truth in there.

In the enterprise smartphone segment, former leader BlackBerry (NASDAQ: BBRY  ) has seen its market share plummet. BlackBerry dominated the corporate market for years thanks to a reputation built on security and the reliability of its network. But in recent years the bring-your-own-device trend has led many corporations to support multiple devices and operating systems, which has benefited Apple and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG  ) as the popular iPhone and Android-powered devices quickly stole share from the less consumer-focused BlackBerry. But while Android currently holds the top spot in overall smartphone OS market share, Apple's reputation for security has led to more wins among corporate buyers. With BlackBerry's global smartphone market share now estimated at a minuscule 3%, it appears that this will be a race between Apple and Google -- a disturbing thought for BlackBerry investors and one that has led to a devastating loss in value for the once high-flying company:

This is not the first coupling for Scientific Games. In late 2013, it bagged WMS Industries, a maker of gambling equipment, for $1.42 billion, while Bally acquired fellow casino-device maker SHFL Entertainment for $1.3 billion. And in mid-July, casino-equipment maker International Game Technology (IGT) agreed to be acquired by Italian lottery-operator Gtech in a deal worth $4.7 billion.

Analysts at Sterne Agee noted on Monday that International Game Technology’s (IGT) fiscal 2014 growth is stronger than it appears. As such, the analysts raised the price target on the casino gaming equipment manufacturer.

The analysts maintain a “Buy” rating on IGT and now see shares reaching $25, up from the previous target of $23. This new price target suggests a 23% upside to the stock’s Friday closing price of $20.32.

“Excluding FY13 Canadian VLT sales, which do not recur in FY14, consensus FY14 EPS growth is ~14% versus ‘in-print’ consensus EPS growth of ~4%,” Sterne Agee analyst David Bain said. “We believe IGT’s peer-low stock valuation is partly driven by a misinterpretation of forward growth using ‘in-print’ FY14 EPS projections.”

Futhermore, the firm raised IGT’s fourth quarter EPS estimates from 33 cents to 34 cents.

IGT shares were inactive during pre-market trading on Monday. The stock is up 43.4% year-to-date.

If you saw the alarming headlines circulating everywhere this morning, then there's a good chance you've already taken on a new position in Fortinet Inc. Both are solutions to the underscored problem, and truth be told, likely will benefit from ugly reality this morning's news is spreading. FTNT and CHKP may not be the best ways to play the news-based investing theme, however. The best long-term play is a solutions provider called Staffing 360 Solutions Inc. (OTCBB:STAF). While the company may not superficially sit in the same category as Fortinet or Check Point Software Technologies, fundamentally, it does, and may actually be better positioned for growth.

IT security company Check Point Software (NASDAQ: CHKP  ) delivered a good set of results recently, but its guidance disappointed and the stock took a hit. The company has long been known for its high profit margins and excellent cash flow, but the security marketplace is very competitive. Is Check Point starting to feel the heat from competitors like Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT  ) and Palo Alto Networks (NYSE: PANW  ) ? Or, is its guidance too conservative?
